Lisa Dawn Miller's
show at The Metropolitan Room for two nights in March was one of the best
cabaret acts that I have ever seen. Very rarely do you get to see a
singer casts a magic spell on stage and have the audience in the palm of
her hand. Aside from being a really good singer with a strong belt and a
sweet, creamy vocal quality, Lisa had passion, sincerity, warmth and a
great stage persona. The show focused on the songs of her father,
the composer Ron Miller, who passed away last summer. He has written some
of the biggest hit songs in history recorded by the most successful
recording artists around the world, yet is not known by the general
public. Lisa's goal is to get her father's name out there. His hit
songs include “For Once In My Life” (one of the most recorded and
successful songs in history, won a Grammy Award in 2006 for the Tony
Bennett and Stevie Wonder collaboration), “Touch Me In The Morning” (music
by Michael Masser), “Place In the Sun” (Music by Bryan Wells)” “Yester-me,
Yester-you, Yesterday,” “Heaven Help Us All” (last song recorded by Ray
Charles -Grammy 2005),” “I've Never Been to Me,” “Someday at Christmas”
and the parent's anthem, “If I Could.” Lisa also performed songs
from a few of her father's musicals that didn't get to Broadway,
Cherry, Clothespins & Dreams, Daddy Goodness. Lisa is
extremely versatile and can have you laughing one moment with the woman's
complaint song “Men,” and crying the next with a song her father wrote
both music and lyrics to “I Want To Come Back as a Song.” She is
married to Sandy Hackett (son of legendary comedian Buddy Hackett) who
produces and performs as Joey Bishop in the Rat Pack Show in Las Vegas and
they are based in LA. However, Lisa's plans to return to NY in the
Fall and when she does, don’t miss this remarkable show and
performer.
